Chapter 22: Sermon on the mount

And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his warriors, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be protected from the disease; 2 And they that were descended upon by creatures of darkness: and they were afeared. 3 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 5 Warned are the poor in spirit: for they need the strength of heaven.

Warned are they that mourn: for they shall be revisited.

Warned are ye that laugh now: for ye shall weep.

Warned are the weak: for they shall go into the earth.

Warned are ye that hunger now: for ye shall fill another.

Warned are the merciful: for they shall be shown no mercy. 11 Warned are the pure in heart: for they shall faulter. 12 Warned are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the failures of God. 13 Warned are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the lonliest cell.

Warned are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the sake of true defense.

Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in those days when all manner of the weak sleep with the prophets.

But come unto me those that are rich! for ye have money for blades. 17 Come unto those that are full! for ye shall fight long before you hunger. Come unto me those that laugh now! for ye shall laugh in the face of death. 18 Come unto me, when all men shall speak well of you! for you shall show them your true might!

Salt is good: but if the salt is eaten with whom shall it find favor? 20 It is fit only for the dunghill, and men cast it out. It cannot return, lest it be shunned and destroyed in disgust. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
