Chapter 32: The strait gate

The Bacon Gospels -- Buy 'em!

And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, fighting, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 2 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which are pulled in thereat: 4 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that struggle through it.

Beware of false people, which come to you in the living's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous holes.6 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather flies in their hair, or speak in gurgles? 7 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 9 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 10 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil thing out of its empty heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh, but absent a beating heart he speaketh not.

When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath nailed shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not what ye are:

Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast seen us in our streets. 14 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not what ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of infection.

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see you yourselves thrust out of the shelter. 16 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and ye shall sit down in their midst defeated. 17 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cut out evils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day all shall be perfected. 20 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
