Chapter 104: Is it lawful for a man to slay his wife?

1 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he trained them further.

2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put to the sword his risen wife? tempting him.

3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 4 And they said, Moses said thou shalt not kill. 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the weakness in your heart he wrote you this precept. 6 But from the beginning of the creation God made exceptions to the rule. 7 For just cause shall a man kill his father and mother, and cleave his wife; 8 And they that are lifeless flesh, so then they are no more man, but one risen, are an exception. 9 What God hath brought to death, no man can truly kill again.

10 And in the house his warriors asked him again of the same matter. 11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall do away with his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 12 But if a woman shall die and rise, and her husband put her away, and be married to another, he committeth adultery not.
